Nick brings more than 15 years of experience across military service, aviation, Defence industry, and veteran advocacy to his role at Veteran Life. He served as a full-time infantry soldier in the Australian Army from 2009 to 2014 before transitioning to the Army Reserve, where he continues to serve today. His time in the Army provided him with first-hand insight into the demands of military service and the challenges that many veterans face both during service and after transition.

Aviation and Defence industry

Following his transition from full-time service, Nick pursued a career in aviation, working as a pilot in both Adelaide and Darwin. His work in aviation further developed his ability to operate in high-responsibility environments where safety, decision-making, and discipline are critical.

After several years in aviation, Nick transitioned into roles within the Defence industry, where he has worked across a range of corporate positions focused on analytics, performance management, and contract management. In these roles he has supported Defence capability and service delivery through data analysis, reporting, and improving organisational processes.

Path into advocacy

Nick became involved in veteran advocacy after navigating the Department of Veterans’ Affairs system during his own transition from service. Like many veterans, he found that the claims process was far more complex than it initially appeared. Understanding entitlements, gathering medical evidence, and navigating policy can be challenging without guidance.

What began as helping a few mates understand the process gradually developed into a deeper interest in supporting veterans to access the assistance they are entitled to. Over time this work grew into a genuine passion and ultimately a career focused on advocacy.

Role at Veteran Life

Nick now holds formal qualifications in veteran advocacy and has spent several years assisting veterans to navigate the DVA claims process. As Advocate and Head of Policy, he supports veterans in understanding their entitlements, gathering evidence, and progressing claims, with a strong focus on ensuring veterans feel supported and informed throughout. He also leads VETS Act policy analysis for the firm.

Outside work

Nick enjoys spending time outdoors and has a strong passion for hiking, camping, and canyoning.
